Fast, efficient and comfortable service describes the Deutsch Bahn AG (DB), or GermanRail. Over 100 German cities are linked by the IC with hourly express services.

High Speed Trains within the German Rail

InterCity Express (ICE)
The ICE is the high tech train of the German Rail: innovative technology, top speeds of 250 km/hr and the most up-to-date accommodations. All 1st and 2nd class coaches are air conditioned. You may chose from a variety of seating arrangements, such as compartments, single seat in large coach or seating with tables. Each seat is equipped with an audio system. A conference center with radiotelephone, fax and typewriter is available to all passengers. Two card telephones allow telephone calls at all times, even when traveling through tunnels.
ICE Sprinter
Frankfurt - Munchen or Muchen - Frankfurt in less than 3 hours. The "Isar Sprinter" and the "Rhein Sprinter" are the names of the sprinter trains of the ICE sprinter trains. Reservations are required for the 1st and 2nd class, a express reservation can be made at the time of departure, provided space is available. The ticket price for the sprinter trains includes snacks, drinks, earphones and two daily newspapers in the 1st class, in the 2nd class snacks, drinks and one daily newspaper are included.
EuroCity (EC)
The EuroCity is the quality service of 16 European rails which connects approx. 200 European cities. About 60 daily connections from Germany take you to your destination fast and comfortably.
InterCity (IC)
Approx. 200 InterCity trains between about 100 cities connect you to the most important business centers in Germany. Service is available from the early morning hours until late at night, mostly in a one hour interval at a speed of up to 200km/hr. The InterCity train offers these advantages:

Reservations
A seat can be reserved up to two months in advance of your travel date. Overnight coach can be reserved up to three months in advance. For travel on the ICE/EC/ and IC trains the reservations are free of charge.
Express Ticket Sales
Almost all IC train stations offer express ticket service for travelers who wish to proceed without travel advice or reservations.
1st Class Counter
The First Class Counter for faster individual service is available nationwide at 16 train stations. Please refer to the special counter designations.
Creditcards
The German Rail accepts American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard and Visa at all ICE, EC and IC train stations. All agencies of the German Rail also accept these cards.
Park and Rail Parking Service
Withe the Park and Rail Parking Service the long distance traveler (from 100 km and up) can reserve a parking spot at many ICE/EC and IC train stations at a reduced cost.
Park and Ride Regional
In the vicinity of major cities the German Rail offers more than 100,000 parking spots, many at no charge.
Luggage and Taxi Service
At larger train stations a baggage handler will take your luggage to the train. Tips are expected. At approx. 60 stations in the service area of German Rail the taxi driver will carry your luggage to the train.
Luggage Courier
The German Rail offers a house to house luggage pick-up and delivery service nationwide. Your luggage will be picked up and delivered to your destination address. Of course you may also chose to check-in your luggage at the train station at departure and pick up at the train station upon arrival.

German Rail Passes

The German Rail Passes are "Flexipasses" and are valid for a specific number of days within a one month period. Americans and Canadians, buy your rail passes and long distance round-trip German travel tickets before you leave, you will save money. German Rail passes are available from travel agents and German Rail offices in the United States.

The Flexipass gives unlimited travel on the entire German rail system. The Flexipass allows you 5 days of coach or first class travel ; 10 days of coach or first class; or 15 of coach or first class for the current published rate. Other plans include "Rail Pass/Drive", senior and junior citizen programs, district tickets and city to city weekend tours.


Eurailpass

Eurail passes offer the best value for the traveler who wants to visit two or more countries in Europe. They provide for unlimited travel on trains in the seventeen participating countries within a pre-determined number of days.

There are five types of Eurail Passes available:

Eurail Pass
Unlimited, daily first class travel for the duration of the pass; from 15 days to 3 months.
Eurail Saverpass
15 days of unlimited, daily first class travel at a reduced cost for two or more people traveling together. From April 1st thru September 30, there must be 3 or more people in the group.
Eurail Flexipass
Unlimited first class travel for any 5, 10 or 15 days within a 2 month period.
Eurail Youthpass
Unlimited 2nd class travel for 1 or 2 months for those under 26.
Eurail Youth Flexipass
Unlimited 2nd class travel for 5, 10 or 15 days within a 2 month period for those under 26.
